A RECENT SUCCESS--THE WTA CHARITY BASH
BY THOM KNAB

Three graduates of our Williamsville High Schools will receive assistance with the cost of their education thanks to the generosity of our members. The eighth annual WTA Charity Bash raised a great deal of money for our WTA Scholarship Fund.

The WTA provides a scholarship to a senior at each high school who will be going into education or labor studies. This year’s Bash, at the Main-Transit Fire Hall, was centered around a Mexican Fiesta theme. Approximately 215 members participated in this solidarity and fund-raising event. Each school created an awesome themed basket for the scholarship raffle. Attendees could choose to spend their Chinese auction tickets for chances to win baskets containing children’s book, wine, lottery tickets, chocolate and many other items, including a bouquet of money.

Thank you to those who oversaw the creation of the baskets and all members who contributed to them. A big thank you goes out to Kathie Macy for taking care of the coffee, Meghan Glieco for researching decorations, and Craig Bova for providing the sound system and DJ services. A special thank you goes out to the building Bash Reps who helped make the Bash a success: Jim Mescall, Shauna Pantano, Mike Braunscheidel, Bev Heinen, Terri Fitscher, Nicole Famiglietti, Marybeth McGrath, Kathie Macy, Chris Westenfield, Craig Bova, Carla Catalano, Chris Murphy, and Meghan Glieco. Please make sure you show them your appreciation!

SPRING BOOK DRIVE—A NEW OPPORTUNITY
BY JILLIAN WEBER

For our community service goal this year we decided to strive to complete projects that would enhance our school community, our local community, and our global community.

In the fall many of us took part in the American Cancer Society Making Strides walk to help raise money for breast cancer research and awareness for our global community. We will be giving to our school community when high school scholarships are awarded later this year.

So now it is time to give to our local community! Since Spring had finally sprung... let the cleaning begin! We will be collecting new or gently used children's and adults’ books to donate to local establishments that serve people in our local community, such as doctors’ offices, dentists’ offices, and senior centers.

This book drive will also serve as a public relations promotion because each book will indicate that it is donated by the Williamsville Teachers’ Association! Your participation is critical to making this drive a success!

Senior building representatives will let you know where to find the donation boxes in your building. We will accept donations until June 10th.

If you are interested in assisting with the drive, either helping to label or distribute books, please e-mail Jillian Weber or call the WTA office.
